Interesting the distinct (and elitist?) difference between Smarts and Marks: “Smart fan informants defined a Mark specifically as someone who responds to wrestling in a way intended by the people who write the storylines…Smarts view Marks with scorn” (169).  This would be equivalent, I suppose, to us knowledgeable seminarians describing the undiscerning reader of popular but inane Christian “literature” or even theology.  It’s difficult not to adopt a superior attitude when you have the “inside scoop,” but it is just this attitude that gives Christians a bad name.
