Week 2 Wednesday

October 4, 2007

Wess made a good point at the end of class today that it helps to have a concrete narrative to apply concepts as we discuss them throughout the quarter. I’m glad we had the opportunity to watch the movie all at once. Not knowing much about Gandhi’s life, I am still processing. But what continued to stand out to me today was his stance on non-violence, even to the point of fasting almost-to-death to control the masses. Two profound statements again: “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” and the idea that the strength of civil resistance is the ability to provoke response and thus control the government.
